{"id":11067,"date":"2011-03-02T15:50:04","date_gmt":"2011-03-02T05:50:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/power-up.space\/?p=11067"},"modified":"2011-03-02T15:50:04","modified_gmt":"2011-03-02T05:50:04","slug":"top-young-designers-showcased-at-melbourne-museum","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.impulsegamer.com\/wordpress\/?p=11067","title":{"rendered":"Top young designers showcased at Melbourne Museum"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The Creepy Spooksville pinball machine, a conversation seat, a coat inspired by a babushka doll and the graphic design for the flagship vehicle of \u2018Oatomobile\u2019 porridge are just some of the outstanding works featured in <em>Top Designs 2011<\/em>.<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In its 11<sup>th<\/sup> year at Melbourne Museum, <em>Top Designs<\/em> showcases the works of some of Victoria\u2019s most exceptional emerging designers. Featuring 122 works by 108 students from government, Catholic and independent schools across Victoria, the exhibition includes everything from furniture and fashion to graphic design and photography.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s exciting to see such a diversity of works by talented and imaginative young designers\u201d, said Brett Dunlop, Manager, Melbourne Museum. \u201c<em>Top Designs<\/em> represents an amazing opportunity for students to exhibit their work in the museum and for visitors to get a look at the future of design in Australia\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All the works on show were produced as part of VCE studies in the disciplines of Media, Design and Technology, Food and Technology, Visual Communication and Design, Systems Engineering and VET Interactive Digital Media. 285 students were shortlisted for the exhibition from over 1,500 applications, with the exhibitors selected by six specialist panellists.<\/p>\n<p>Folios and design plans are exhibited alongside the works, providing visitors with an insight into the development of each design from the original concept, design options and trialling of materials to the finished product and evaluation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver its 11 years <em>Top Designs<\/em> has featured the works of more than 1200 young designers, inspiring thousands more. It\u2019s especially important that all students receive free admission to the exhibition<em> <\/em>so that we can continue to encourage and support our next generation of designers,\u201d said Dunlop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe VCAA welcomes the partnership with Melbourne Museum, one of Victoria\u2019s key cultural institutions.
