MELBOURNE, Friday, 28 January 2011: The nominations for the 83rd<\/sup> Academy Awards were officially announced on Tuesday, 25th<\/sup> January, revealing a host of prestigious nods for Madman \u00a0distributed films.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n

After months of nail-biting suspense, multiple prestigious high-profile award nominations, worldwide critical acclaim and an AFI Award for \u2018Best Actress\u2019- Jacki Weaver<\/strong> has finally received a \u2018Best Supporting Actress\u2019 nomination for her stellar performance in ANIMAL KINGDOM<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Following numerous short animation awards in 2010, and most recently, the prestigious AFI Award for the same category, THE LOST THING<\/strong>, co-directed by world-renowned Australian author and illustrator Shaun Tan,<\/strong> has appeared amongst the nomination list for \u2018Best Short Film (Animation)\u2019.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, in the \u2018Best Actor\u2019 category, Javier Bardem<\/strong> has received a nomination for his powerful role in the March 24 Madman Theatrical release BIUTIFUL<\/strong>, which has also been recognised in the \u2018Best Foreign Language Film\u2019 category. In addition, DOGTOOTH<\/strong> and OUTSIDE THE LAW [HORS-LA-LOI]<\/strong> have both received nominations in the \u2018Best Foreign Language Film\u2019 category.<\/p>\n

In the \u2018Best Documentary Feature\u2019 category, EXIT THROUGH THE GIFT SHOP<\/strong>, the incendiary debut by Banksy – <\/strong>the notorious British street artist – is in the running for a gong alongside two other 2011 Madman distributed releases in GASLAND<\/strong>, Josh Fox\u2019s eye-opening revelation of the environmental impact of hydraulic fracturing (\u2018fracking\u2019) and National Geographic\u2019s RESTREPO<\/strong>, the harrowing true story of Second Platoon\u2019s operations in Afghanistan, which plays out like a real-life version of 2010 Oscar\u00ae winner, THE HURT LOCKER.<\/p>\n

Also coming in 2011 from Madman, nominated in the \u2018Best Animated Feature\u2019 category, is THE ILLUSIONIST<\/strong>, the new feature from director Sylvain Chomet<\/strong> (THE TRIPLETS OF BELLEVILLE) based on an unproduced script by Jacques Tati.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s list of nominations represents the largest ever potential slate of Oscars\u00ae for films distributed by Madman. The 2011 Academy Awards\u00ae ceremony will take place at the Kodak Theatre in Los Angeles on February 27.<\/p>\n
