Based on a modern day civil war with the citizens of the United States pitted against each other, Shattered Union presents a “what if” scenario for gamers to enjoy. The nature of SU is fairly simplistic with a combat model that is really suited to those who have not had a lot of experience with strategy titles as its fairly easy to get into and a heck of a lot of fun to play. Essentially the States has shattered into 6 divided unions that are warring against each other for supremacy. Add to this the Europeans who have invaded the Washington area after a calculated nucliear strike and its all systems go. In this game you are given one of the shattered unions and the task of uniting all the States once again! With this title taking place in the modern age, you will have at your disposal all the weapons and armament of the 21 century to play with. There are a number of powers that you can use later in the game as you mesh combat with political prowess to achieve the outcomes that you need to get the land back together as a solid cohesive unit. One of the major things that you are going to need to keep in mind playing this game is the turn based nature of it all. So you need to make sure that you are allocating the right amount of troops to the attack or defence of your territories. Add to that the instant access the rest of the world has to your deeds via the press and the internet and you have to play a very calculating game or suffer the wrath of the rest of the world and also to your political standing. There will be some people out there who have problems with the simplistic gameplay that is featured in some of the game, especially from those who eat these games for breakfast but personally I found the install and play-a-bility of the game refreshing and a nice intro to the genre for those interested in possibly playing other strat titles. I would give this one the thumbs up and can say that all players will enjoy it. The title is easy to pick up and presents some interesting questions, especially by staging them in a modern environment. Give it a try and see what you think.
