Microsoft Internet Keyboard
 - reviewed by Tory Favro
Review Date: 19th November 2002
Review Score: 7.0/10
Distributor: Microsoft

The Microsoft Internet Keyboard is designed with for those who are on the internet 24/7 with it's inbuilt browser hot keys located at the top of the keyboard within easy reach.

Features of the Microsoft Internet Keyboard

  • Internet Hot Keys - Start your browser and surf the web right from the keyboard.

  • Email Hot Key - Check email with a touch of a button

  • Other Hot Keys - My Computer and Calculator Hot Keys

  • Sleep Hot Key - puts your computer into sleep or suspend mode, saving energy and protecting data

  • Detachable Palm Rest - provides more support if required

The keyboard is extremely comfortable to use, however the design in quite uninspired and not appealing to look at.

We have been fortunate enough lately to be able to review most of the current keyboard line up for Microsoft and I would have to say that although this is a good keyboard to use, it is also the weakest in the current line-up.

Whilst the internet hotkeys are certainly there, they are not readily accessible and I found that the same amount of time, in fact less time, was taken lifting my hand from the keyboard and using the mouse to click on my web browser. This could also have been the case because I spend an awful lot of time in front of my computer and using the mouse is second nature to me.

Possibly for the novice, the hot keys could be of value though I pretty much doubt it. I did find the email, My Computer and Calculator hot keys to be excellent and a true time saving device however and that is a credit to the keyboard. Also given the fact that the Internet Keyboard is only $49.95 (at time of writing), means that it is true value for money for a quality keyboard.

Microsoft Internet Keyboard Requirements

  • Intellitype Pro Software (included)
  • Windows 98, ME, 2000 or XP Operating Systems
  • 25 MB Available Hard Disk Space
  • 32 MB RAM for Windows 98 or Windows Millennium Edition
  • 64 MB RAM for Windows NT 4.0
  • 64 MB RAM for Windows 2000 Professional
  • 128 MB RAM for Windows XP Home Edition or Professional
  • An available PS/2 port
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.01 with Service Pack 2 (IE 5 included)

Installation of the Internet Keyboard was a breeze and worked immediately. In summary, this product is a good keyboard for people wanting just a little bit more out of their computer experience and is a good value purchase.
