The
Young Victoria

For those who love period dramas with amazing costumes and sets, than you've come to the right place as director Jean-Marc Vallee attempts to put another romantic twist on a young Queen Victoria.

Masterfully written by Julian Fellowes, The Young Victoria revolves around the life and times of how this young woman was to be groomed to become one of the world's most powerful rulers and interestingly enough, the film is produced by the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson.

Emily Blunt (Devil Wears Prada) plays our royal protagonist who actually does quite a charming job at the process itself and one can almost see the graceful mannerisms of a queen to be. There is even a love triangle between Queen Victoria, Prince Albert (Rubert Friend) and Lord Melbourne which highlights the reason why royals must marry royals.

As her guardians shelter the queen to be from a variety of advisors, her love life is almost her own which is where the romance begins in this relatively interesting drama. From politics to intrigue, romance to hate, this is a classic period drama that will not challenge this genre but definitely creates a worthy inspiration of those to come.

Although Blunt beams as her character, there are also some other standout performances, especially Paul Bettany as Lord Melbourne and of course the delightful Miranda Richardson.

The camera work is sheer brilliant as are the sets, costumes and cinematography of this film. The only issue that I had is that the film appears too clean and almost too perfect. Even so, this has been created with an audience in mind and they do succeed at that.
