This Japanese science fiction film is probably one of the most goriest and strangest movie that I have seen in quite some time. It's set in a dark future where Tokyo is run by private corporations and even the police force is part of the privatization. The film revolves around a female police officer known as Ruka who has been give the task of hunting down the Engineers which are homicidal mutants. Unfortunately for Ruka, these mutants also have the ability to turn anything into a deadly weapon and from the first scene you immediately know that you are in for a strange experience when a man's penis is used as a gun. Confused? Read on! The only way to kill these Engineers is to destroy a small tumor inside their body, however that's easy said than done. As Ruku explores this strange dark world, looking for answers, she uncovers the man who murdered her father, however she also discovers a dark secret that threatens the very fabric of Tokyo itself. The movie itself is uber violent with blood and gore a staple of this movie, not that there is anything wrong with this but just a warning for the squeamish. Although the movie takes itself quite seriously, there are also some comedic scenes that assist in the over the top action and violence. Watching Ruku slice her way through a plethora of Engineers with her samurai sword is like watching a video game come to love and adds to the atmosphere of this film. The director ensures that there are enough twists and turns which will leave the viewer not knowing what will happen next. With decent video and audio quality, this must be experienced on a Plasma or LCD with surround sound to truly enjoy the over the top action. Definitely one for those who enjoy Japanese science fiction! Special Features: |
