The Haunting of Molly Hartley

Initially I thought this movie was about "Ghosts" and come on now, the more ghost stories the better, however as I was drawn into the movie, this film started to parallel other supernatural horror plots.

The premise revolves around Molly Hartley, a 17-year old girl who was almost killed by her mother, stating that she wanted to save her from the "darkness". Although her mother has been institutionalised, her father is now her sole custodian.

In order to get her away from the stigma of her mother's attempted murder, her father moves her to a new school where things begin to go awry. Certain teenagers at this school are treating Molly a little different and to compound the situation, she hears voices and has brief flashes of peculiar and horribly visions.

Without spoiling this movie too much, we learn that if Molly reaches her 18, she will become a vessel for Satan and from there a game of cat and mouse begins, always leaving it open to the viewer, whether it's real or not.

Unfortunately what started as an interesting movie generally begins to go downhill because other movies have visited this premise before and have managed better outcomes.

It's strange that The Haunting of Molly Hartley has been released now, so long after the year 2000 where there were quite a few movies about Satanic possessions and the like. With some good acting by all involved, the movie is only let down by its predictable and clichéd plot which borders of a meritocracy.

Unfortunately as this was a test disc, video, audio and special features could not be reviewed.
