Sleek Geeks Series 2

What do you get when you bring together scientist Dr. Karl Kruszelnicki and maths/comedian whizz Adam Spencer? The answer is Sleek Geeks Series 2, one of the world's most down to Earth and understandable science programs. It's almost like their own version of Ripley's Believe it or Not crossed with Professor Julius Sumner Miller as they answer a variety of strange, entertaining and important questions that many would not even think asking.

Featuring 8 episodes from season 2, Sleek Geeks Series 2 includes the following amusing and insightful episodes;

  • Superhuman

  • Big Mouth

  • Why is it So 1

  • Apocalypse

  • Eating

  • Why is it So 2

  • Colour

  • Weeing

What makes Sleek Geeks so entertaining is the banter between Karl and Adam, with Karl providing the scientific facts and Adam generally adding some more comedy elements into the mix and his strange maths brain.  However it also goes the other way as both men have the gift of the gab that makes them quite likeable and relatable.

The first episode Superhuman sees Karl attempting to lift a car with only human hair. By turning the human hair into "rope" and interestingly enough, they almost succeed. Even though they didn't succeed, Karl informs us that this is science, a quest for discovering facts and this series has quite a few.

Each episode also has some studio interaction as audience members attempt to rank certain categories, ask questions and there is even some great special appearances by Claudia Karvan, Art vs Science, Rhys Muldoon and Benita Collings, proving that Sleek Geeks is not just a static science series but something quite interactive.

It's not all wackiness because some of the answers involve everyday  questions such as as why does blood leak out of plastic bags when you defrost frozen meat. Surprisingly it's because the plastic is similar to barb wire once frozen and that the blood leaks out through these small gaps. From the science of swearing to more scientific endeavours of what effect light has on colours to my favourite episode, the science of weeing... way too many "wee" facts. And I now I know what a whizbiz is! (Answer: a device that allows women to urinate while standing up)

Video, Audio & Special Features

Both the video and audio quality is quite good, especially for a TV series and unfortunately no special features are present on this release. Even so, Sleek Geeks Series 2 is a fun TV series that actually makes science exciting and dare I say it... even sexy! Recommended!
