Horny House of Horror

One of Siren’s more memorably titled acquisitions of late, Horny House of Horror sees three buddies set out for a night of passion at Shogun, a surprisingly affordable brothel that’s recently opened in their suburb. The women who work within look suitably sultry, but unbeknownst to the lads have such a collective penchant for dick torture and bloodletting they make Jeffrey Dahmer look like Minnie Mouse. It’ll be all the trio can do to escape with their lives intact, let alone their genitals.

I’m pretty sure Freud would have liked this one. The film, like the ladies who dwell within Shogun’s seamy confines, doesn’t waste any time getting down to business. The very first scene, in fact, finds Japanese porn star and AV idol Saori Hara (soon to be seen locally in the upcoming fourth instalment of the Sex and Zen series) atop a client, playfully wrapping his penis in seaweed before not so playfully taking several large bites, much to his chagrin. It’s a hell of an opening five minutes, and the carnage only continues from there.

Hara, whose filmography includes such titles as Real Celebrity Saori Hara: Facial Cum Clinic, Middle Aged Man Sex Play and the somewhat pithier Rape Ward, is to be applauded for managing to look both menacing and sexy while covered in literally litres of fake blood, as are her co-stars Yuya Ishikawa and Asami (Robogeisha), the latter of whom steals the show in a scene reminiscent of Teeth which sees a mangled male member tumbling, post coitus, from her toothy snatch. The ample gore comes courtesy of special effects legend Yoshihiro Nishimura (with special credits for ‘Gore Effects’ and ‘Gunshot Effects’) and are really fantastic, especially considering the film’s miniscule budget.

The cathouse from hell is a great setting for a cheap STV horror effort, and first time writer/director Jun Tsugita is to be applauded for delivering the gruesome goods: if blood and babes are your thing, you need look no further.
