Children of Glory

Children of Glory is an engaging drama about a group of Hungarian athletes who are about to compete in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne Australia. As the country of Hungary falls apart from a devastating Russian insurgence to squash a political uprising in Budapest, the Hungarian Water Polo team are headed to Australia. With the world crumbling around them, fate deals them another card and the Hungarian Polo team ironically plays the Russians in the final.

Directed by Krisztina Goda, Children of Glory is at times a romantic drama that not only goes into the politics of the time but the relationships of these athletes and they cope with everything going wrong around them. With some great performances by all involved, just be warned that subtitles play a part in this movie, however if you can push that aside, it will be quite an immersive move experience.

The cinematography of the movie should also be mentioned, especially with the authentic scenes in Budapest and some great re-enactments of the Russian tanks invading Hungary. It's quite a heroic movie at times, even though the content around it is quite depressing but seeing the Hungarian Water Polo team victorious is truly a harsh defeat for the Russians.
