The eloquent three stooges of the car world, Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond are back for another outrageous collection of road trips that sees the trio visiting the Middle East, the US and Albania. Of course, Top Gear Great Adventures is not all about the comedic antics and witty banter of Clarkson, May and Hammond but they also road test some amazing cars such as the Mercedes-Benz SLS to something more subdued like the Bentley Mulsanne. Add in challenges, races and even facts and this collection has something for everyone.
First up is the Middle East adventure, aptly titled the "Christmas Special" as Clarkson, May and Hammond take on the roles of the Three Wise Men as they recreate the journey of these biblical figures. Their goal is simple (maybe not), make their way to Bethlehem. However the highlight of this journey is
how they reached their destination and much to the viewer’s amazement,
the trio drove open-top cruisers which I'm guessing the insurance
company of the BBC wasn't mightily impressed. Apart from the
controversy, the Middle East adventure was actually a very entertaining
road trip that is filled with humour and even some useful facts along
the way. Just check out the screenshot above!
Although not as controversial as the Middle East special, the Albania adventure definitely mocks the cars of this former Communist country. In this road trip, the boys engage in a variety of challenges to see which is the ideal car for the "Mafia" of this former Communist state is and these include the Rolls Royce Ghost, the Bentley Mulsanne and the Mercedes S65 AMG. Apart from the cars, antics and challenges are included in this
collection that are a real hoot! A special note should be made about the
cinematography of these adventures which really highlight the majestic
beauty of these three totally opposite places. Top Gear has always had
some great cinematography and camera work and this special once again
cements this fact. There's a handful of special features but nothing that memorable. All in all, the BBC give Top Gear fans what they want, more car content. Even if you're not a car fanatic, the Top Gear series has a special charm about it that will draw you in from the humorous camaraderie between the talented Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond to their ridiculous racing.
