Although I've seen Planet Terror on DVD before, the Blu-ray version is nothing short of spectacular thanks to its exceptional sharp picture quality and vibrant colours which makes this disc almost reference quality.

Originally, Planet Terror was part of the "Grindhouse" double feature with Death Proof, however due to the poor sales in the United States, both movies have been released separately for the home market and needless to say, Planet Terror is quite an entertaining flick in a "retro" fashion.

The movie is based on this horrible yet sometimes entertaining B-Movies genre of the 70's which returns in this current incarnation of the franchise and us once again to this area of over the top action, acting and adult themes thanks to Director Robert Rodriguez who pays homage to his favourite B-movies in this old-fashioned yet modern zombie movie.

The story revolves around Cherry (Rose McGowan) who plays a sexy go-go dancer whose night is interrupted by a vicious zombie attack that leaves her missing a leg. From the pain, her ex-boyfriend Wray takes charge, fashioning her a new leg from a machine gun and from there she starts killing those pesky zombies along the way. Planet Terror is a satisfying homage to the horror and exploitation films that once played in dingy cinemas across the world.

Rodriguez gives the viewer what they are expecting with plenty of blood, guts and gore across the screen, while also taking the plot into some enjoyably bizarre territory.

Apart from the outrageous story, the Blu-ray version of this movie is fantastic with exceptionally sharp images and a great colour palette which looks extraordinary on our Panasonic high definition LCD that when matched with the TrueDolby 5.1 surround sound, it's truly a movie experience that can be enjoyed from the comforts of your own home.

Match that with a plethora of entertaining special features and this collection is worth every penny. Planet Terror is a 21st century classic!
