In a galaxy far far away... the immortal first words to the Star Wars mythology have once again been recreated on the XBox 360, however with the biggest twist to the franchise in years. LEGO! That's right, the world of Star Wars has been turned into LEGO which allowed gamers to experience the entire mythology from episodes I to VI in separate games, however this current incarnation features the entire storyline in one handy DVD. Although this current version features both the original games, the developers have also added a plethora of extras that makes this a worthy purchase of its own as gamers once again get to play the heroes and villains of the title such as Han Solo and Darth Vader.
In the world of LEGO Star Wars, gamers take on the role of characters from the Star Wars universe, playing through the events in the films with a variety of different abilities. Jedi characters wield lightsabers with ease and use the Force to manipulate LEGO objects in the environments. This only scratches the surface of what the characters are capable of, and after playing through each level once in Story Mode, you’ll have to mix it up in Free Play with characters’ abilities to unlock all of the hidden goodies. Best of all, nothing has really changed in the basic gameplay of LEGO Star Wars in this collection. It’s simple to jump right into and get the hang of, without having to remember a bunch of complex maneuvers. Of course, this simplicity is a bit of a double-edged sword. While younger gamers and those of the more casual scene will appreciate the ease of play, some of the more hardcore crowd will feel like they’re playing a basic button masher from back in the day, albeit with a different coat of paint.
LEGO Star Wars has always been a more of a two character experience andi n every level, players take control of at least two main characters, with single-player gamers swapping out as needed. The real fun has always been about getting friends in on the action though, with extra players able jump in and out on the fly. With LEGO Star Wars the Complete Saga, this experience is taken online, with full Xbox Live support for two-player co-op play. How's that for Jedi cool! Graphically, LEGO Star Wars the Complete Saga looks amazing on the XBox 360 thanks to improved graphics and hi definition textures from the reflections of the steel floors to the desert winds blowing on Tattoine, the visuals are a real treat for the eyes. Also, for all of you Star Wars junkies, there’s a whole host of new characters making appearances in the new game. There’s even a special appearance by a certain fedora-clad, bullwhip-carrying, snake-fearing archeologist who’s stumbled into this galaxy far, far away. And if there’s not enough in the game for you, you can always do a little mix and match to create whatever your mind can come up with. There’s even some brand-new levels mixed in throughout the game to make sure there’s something fresh for those of you who beat the games the first time around. These not only serve to bring back owners of the original games, but they help complete entire Star Wars picture from beginning to end.
In conclusion, if you’re a Star Wars fans new to the LEGO Star Wars experience, there’s no doubt you should pick up LEGO Star Wars the Complete Saga on the Xbox 360. The sharp graphics, the great sounds, online play…the Complete Saga is a complete collection. And with all the new goodies and content thrown in, there’s even a reason for those of you who bought the games the first time around to go out there and pick it up again. |
