CLINT EASTWOOD – WB celebrates 35 years with studio

Published on February 18, 2010 in Gaming

In celebration of his 80th birthday AND 35 years with Warner Bros. Studios, Warner Home Video salutes a true motion picture legend.

CLINT EASTWOOD

Actor. Director. Legend.

Two new box sets are available to own on DVD

from 2 June 2010:

CLINT EASTWOOD CLASSIC COLLECTION

$54.95RRP

Dirty Harry: Special Edition, Kelly’s Heroes,

Unforgiven: 10th Anniversary Edition, Outlaw Josey Wales,

Pale Rider and Where Eagles Dare.

CLINT EASTWOOD CONTEMPORARY COLLECTION:

$109.95

Invictus, Letters from Iwo Jima, Flags of our Fathers,

Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River and Gran Torino.

Both box sets include The Eastwood Factor,
an intimate short film from Richard Schickel offering a
rare personal look at Eastwood.

A selection of Clint Eastwood titles will also be promoted  for a limited time on BLU-RAY and DVD, each with a fresh new look.

A complete list is available at the end of this release.

Four of these titles will also debut on

BLU-RAY for $24.95RRP:

Where Eagles Dare, Absolute Power, Kelly’s Heroes and The Rookie.

Clint Eastwood’s illustrious motion picture career has spanned more than a half century and has touched generations of filmgoers. The filmmaker/actor has won five Academy Awards®, and his films have grossed nearly $2 billion at the domestic box office. Warner Home Video (WHV) will celebrate Eastwood and his 35-year association with the studio through Malpaso Productions with two new box set offerings – classic and contemporary – plus a range of promoted titles, four of which will debut on Blu-ray for first time ever!

The classic collection contains collections contain six early Eastwood films from the Warner library and highlights his earlier work – Dirty Harry: Special Edition, Kelly’s Heroes, Unforgiven: 10th Anniversary Edition, Outlaw Josey Wales, Pale Rider and Where Eagles Dare.

The contemporary collection contains six more recent Eastwood films – Letters from Iwo Jima, Flags of our Fathers, Invictus, Million Dollar Baby, Mystic River and Gran Torino.

Both box sets include The Eastwood Factor, an intimate short film from Time magazine critic and film historian Richard Schickel. The Eastwood Factor presents Eastwood in a way he’s rarely seen – visiting film locations or sites where his movies were created, and on the Warner lot visiting the costume department and Eastwood Scoring Stage, as well as at his home. Eastwood’s candid, intelligent and often humorous interviews about his body of work and the choices he made, along with Schickel’s selection of scenes from his movies (including his upcoming Invictus), results in an up-close and personal portrait of one of the great icons of our era. The end result is a clear reminder of why Eastwood’s career as both a great filmmaker and actor has been so enduring and his work so respected.

“I’ve known Clint for most of the time he’s been at Warner Bros.,” said Schickel. “I was fortunate to be able to wander around the Warner lot with him and hear his reminiscences. To be able to show him in the places where he works and lives and feels most comfortable is, I think, a unique opportunity.”

Select titles will also be available for download via iTunes, Xbox Live and other digital retailers.

The full 288-page book from Richard Schickel, entitled Clint: A Retrospective, will be published at the end of early March by Sterling Publishing Inc. This definitive appraisal contains 325 photographs, meticulously researched from Warner Bros.’ files and other key image archives. It is Schickel’s homage to the actor who, Schickel says, has most inspired him as a critic over the years. Eastwood himself provides an introduction. A 20-minute version of the full-length documentary will accompany the book, which will also be released in all English-speaking territories overseas.

In making the announcement, Jeff Baker, WHV’s Executive VP and General Manager, Theatrical Catalogue said, “There is not much you can say that hasn’t already been said about this amazingly talented man. We are so proud to have had such a longstanding association with Clint, and we’re delighted to be releasing these collections so both loyal fans and those newly discovering Clint can enjoy his wonderful body of work.”

Eastwood’s relationship with Warner Bros. began in 1975 with the signing of a long-term pact, and Eastwood’s Malpaso Productions moved onto the studio’s storied lot. Among the many awards the actor/filmmaker has received for his work are four Oscars® and 11 nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director Academy Award® wins for Unforgiven and Million Dollar Baby, both of which were made at Warner Bros. Eastwood has also received five Golden Globes®, countless critics association accolades and Lifetime Achievement awards from, among others, the Directors Guild of America, Screen Actors Guild, the American Film Institute and the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (Cecil B. DeMille Award). In addition, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presented him with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award. Recently, Eastwood was made a commander in the prestigious French Legion of Honor (Légion d’honneur), cited for his “body of work, his longevity and his ability to delight audiences around the globe.”

Early in his career, Eastwood starred as the “Man with No Name” in A Fistful of Dollars, his first “spaghetti western,” which was a box office success and drew attention to the young actor. Additional roles followed, including the role of Harry Callahan in five “Dirty Harry” films, beginning in 1971. That same year, he made his directorial debut with Play Misty for Me. Other noted Eastwood films include the Charlie Parker biography Bird; The Bridges of Madison County; In the Line of Fire; Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil; White Hunter, Black Heart; Absolute Power; Space Cowboys; Mystic River; Flags of Our Fathers; Letters from Iwo Jima; and, most recently, Gran Torino. His newest film, Invictus, stars Oscar® winners Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon in the inspiring true story of how Nelson Mandela joined forces with Francois Pienaar, captain of South Africa’s rugby team, to help unite their country.

2K Play Releases The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom Exclusively for Xbox LIVE Arcade

Published on February 18, 2010 in Gaming

A sprinkle of time, a dollop of cloned buttwitts and a taste of vicious Chronoberry pies create a delicious multi-dimensional adventure

Sydney, Australia – February 18, 2010 – 2K Play today announced that The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom video game is now available exclusively on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft for 800 Microsoft Points. Developed by The Odd Gentlemen, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is Chronoberry-filled with gamer goodness that includes a refreshing storyline drizzled with crisp puzzles, a savory score and a decadent art style harkening back to the silent film era.

Set in a world made famous by keystone cops, theater organs and pie-in-the-face slapstick, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom presents the comical escapades of the portly pie thief P.B. Winterbottom and his villainous pursuit of the preposterous Chronoberry Pie. Puzzle solvers face each scrumptious brainteaser armed with the portly P.B. Winterbottom’s blessed and cursed supernatural pie-snatching abilities: time manipulation, self-replication and a hankering for sugar euphoria.

“2K Play is excited to present such a clever and uniquely artistic game that takes players to the core of fun and challenging gameplay,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K. “We love the creative vision that emerged from The Odd Gentlemen’s student thesis. Taking a classic black and white silent film approach, the game blends a bit of time travel, a dash of cloning physics and a whole lot of pies to create a truly beloved mind-bending adventure.”

With five movie levels and five bonus levels, players must devour more than 70 brainteasers to help P.B. Winterbottom capture the Chronoberry pie, return home and undo all the trouble his single-minded pursuits have created.  By applying the proper cloning etiquette, sleuths must crack the enigmas by any means necessary using wit, time control and the ability to clone up to 20 chubby carbon copies.

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is a puzzle connoisseur’s delight, jam-packed with all the wanted preservatives and additives that makes the game play as good as it looks,” said Phil Shpilberg, director of marketing and chief buttwit, 2K. “If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to clone yourself or travel in time, you’ll quickly discover the mind-bending conundrums of operating within that dimension. It’s a good thing you can only do this in our game and not in real life, otherwise, we’d have a lot more vicious pies and buttwitts floating around.”

The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom is is available now on Xbox LIVE® Arcade for Xbox 360 for 800 Microsoft Points. To download, please look under “W” for Winterbottom in the Xbox 360 Dashboard. For more info, please visit: www.winterbottomgame.com.

Adobe Photoshop Hits Twenty

Published on February 18, 2010 in Gaming

Adobe Photoshop Hits Twenty
Community Celebrates Software that Changed the Way We View the World
Feb. 18, 2010 — Adobe® Photoshop®, the software product that redefined creativity in the digital age, turns 20 on Feb. 19, 2010. Around the world, Photoshop fans are celebrating the impact their favourite software has had across photography, art, design, publishing and commerce. In the United States, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals (NAPP) will be hosting a special Photoshop 20th Anniversary celebration for over a thousand attendees in San Francisco at the Palace of the Fine Arts Theatre today. The event will feature Adobe’s senior vice president of Creative Solutions, John Loiacono, as well as vice president of Photoshop Product Management, Kevin Connor, Photoshop co-creator Thomas Knoll and famed Adobe creative director and Photoshop evangelist, Russell Brown. To be a part of this celebration and view the live Webcast, visit: www.photoshopuser.com/photoshop20th.

The festivities continue overseas in Japan, Southeast Asia and throughout Europe. In honour of the 20th anniversary, Adobe Germany will host a special 20-hour online marathon, featuring over 15 local Photoshop “gurus” demonstrating their favourite tips and tricks live for Photoshop fans. In India and France, digital imaging contests will be held to showcase the work of Photoshop users. A special Adobe TV broadcast will also air on the anniversary date (EST) at http://tv.adobe.com/go/photoshop-20th-anniversary, reuniting the original “Photoshop team” for the first time in 18 years, to discuss their early work on the software and demonstrate Photoshop 1.0 on a rebuilt Macintosh computer.

The Photoshop community is also sharing their favourite stories online, with the product and its over 400,000 fan-strong Facebook page, the hub for a worldwide look at the product’s impact. A new “Celebrate” tab directs users to a 20th anniversary logo, which many have already personalised with Photoshop and used as a replacement for their profile image. Connect with the Photoshop team at www.facebook.com/Photoshop or http://twitter.com/photoshop, and add the tag #PS20 to tweets about the anniversary.

“For 20 years Photoshop has played many different roles – it has given creative people the power to deliver amazing images that impact every part of our visual culture and challenged the eye with its ability to transform photographs,” said Shantanu Narayen, president and chief executive officer at Adobe. “It’s no exaggeration to say that, thanks to millions of creative customers, Photoshop has changed the way the world looks at itself.”

The impact of Photoshop is everywhere – billboard signs, magazine covers, major motion pictures, even the logo on the coffee cup you drink out of every morning. All have likely been touched by the software. Over 90 percent of creative professionals have Photoshop on their desktops and today Photoshop is used by professional photographers, graphic designers and advertisers, as well as architects, engineers and even doctors. Whether it’s bringing visual effects to life in the blockbuster film Avatar, helping save lives in partnership with forensics departments and the Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, or challenging the human eye to determine if an image is real or fake, Photoshop continues to find new uses and advocates. (See Customer Quote Sheet.)How It All Began

In 1987, Thomas Knoll developed a pixel imaging program called Display. It was a simple program to showcase greyscale images on a black-and-white monitor. However, after collaborating with his brother John Knoll, the two began adding features that made it possible to process digital image files. The program eventually caught the attention of industry influencers, and in 1988, Adobe made the decision to license the software, naming it Photoshop, and shipping the first version in 1990.

“Twenty years ago, Adobe predicted that it would sell 500 copies of Photoshop per month,” said Thomas Knoll, co-creator of Photoshop at Adobe. “I guess you could say, we beat those projections! It’s amazing to think that millions of people use this software today. We knew we had a groundbreaking technology on our hands, but we never anticipated how much it would impact the images we see all around us. The ability to seamlessly place someone within an image was just the beginning of Photoshop’s magic.”

Over its 20-year history, Photoshop has evolved significantly from a simple original display program to a wildly popular application that has over 10 million users worldwide. With each release, Adobe has introduced technological innovations that defy the impossible. Layers, introduced in Photoshop 3.0, gave designers the ability to create complex compositions easier than ever before. The Healing Brush, another groundbreaking feature introduced in Photoshop 7.0, allowed users to magically retouch images by seamlessly removing blemishes and wrinkles, while preserving lighting and texture. Photoshop tools like crop, eraser, blur and dodge and burn have become part of the creative vernacular worldwide.

The Photoshop team thrives off its rich beta tester program, with active and vocal users who have submitted requests and helped shape the development of features throughout the years. Adobe has maintained a strong connection with its customer base through blogs, user research, customer support, forums and feedback from Adobe “evangelists” who travel the world to engage with Photoshop users.

Explosive stories of power, espionage and humanity’s survival mark the biggest year in Xbox 360 gaming history

Explosive stories of power, espionage and humanity’s survival mark the biggest year in Xbox 360 gaming history

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA, 16th February 2010 – Fire up the flat screen and crank up the volume for the biggest year in Xbox 360 gaming history. At X10, Microsoft Corp. proved to the world why 2010 will be a landmark year for gamers of all types, and it showcased a barrage of exclusive games that defy traditional genres and create new experiences filled with emotion, adrenaline and suspense.

Heart-pounding action and rich storytelling encompass a massive line-up of blockbuster exclusives announced today with the hotly anticipated multiplayer beta of this year’s biggest entertainment phenomenon, “Halo: Reach,” blasting off May 4th, and the chilling and immersive mystery of “Alan Wake” coming May 20th — both only available on the Xbox 360 gaming and entertainment system, starting at just $299 RRP.1 To celebrate the franchise’s Xbox 360 debut on March 9th, Square Enix have created the Xbox 360 “FINAL FANTASY XIII” Special Edition Bundle and Microsoft will be offering the complete experience at an incredible value for $599 RRP1.

Available in Australia later this year, “Dead Rising 2” picks up the suspenseful action where the original left off, as gamers fight to survive swarming hordes of the living dead. Microsoft and Capcom Co. Ltd. have also announced that they are teaming up to set a new standard in storytelling through an exclusive “Dead Rising 2” prologue, downloadable only on Xbox LIVE. “Dead Rising 2: CASE ZERO,” available shortly before the title releases in August, will allow Xbox 360 gamers to get their first glimpse into the “Dead Rising 2” story with exclusive content that will not be featured in the full game.

Last November, acclaimed developer Infinity Ward took gamers back to the action-packed world rife with political intrigue, betrayal and heroism in “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2,” becoming the largest entertainment launch in history, shattering Xbox LIVE launch records along the way. Now Xbox 360 owners will be the only players in the world to fully experience the biggest blockbuster titles with exclusive Game Add-ons, including a “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” content pack arriving first on Xbox LIVE this autumn.

“This is going to be an amazing year for Xbox 360 and for gamers worldwide. It’s our biggest year yet, filled with games and entertainment that you won’t find on any other console,” said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “I’m floored on a daily basis with what the ‘Crackdown 2’ team is doing, and Bungie is proving the impossible possible by eclipsing even its own untouchable standards with ‘Halo: Reach.’ I can’t wait to jump on Xbox LIVE with some friends to amp up our Gamerscores in co-op or talk a little trash to fuel some friendly competition.”2

Gamers can grab their Xbox 360 controllers and envelop themselves in heroic tales of revolutionaries and kings, struggles to save mankind from annihilation, and action-packed stories of mystery and espionage, or simply have some nostalgic fun with family and friends across the globe on Xbox LIVE with the following games:

Surfing for waves on the iPhone

Published on February 16, 2010 in Gaming

Powered by Axis High Definition IP cameras Australia’s SURFit.com brings the beach and break to the palm of your hand

SYDNEY, Aust., February 16 2009 Axis Communications, the market leader in network video, and leading Australian surf website SURFit.com, today launched an application that enables users to check the surf conditions from their iPhone and puts them in control of the camera.

In a world first for lifestyle applications the SURFit iPhone app allows users to remotely control and interact with the surf cameras by panning and zooming to check their favourite break or beach spot on 3G and WiFi. The smart Apple interface allows users to easily tap, swipe or pinch the screen to make the camera remotely pan, tilt or zoom to the area they want to check, providing a detailed view of the breaking wave.

The cameras, set up along Sydney’s most popular beaches, are a range of AXIS Network Cameras which are enabled for advanced remote monitoring, for example the AXIS P5534 Network Camera at Bondi  that complies with the SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers) HDTV standards in resolution, color representation and frame rate to deliver HDTV 1080i or 720P resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio in full frame rate 30/25. With 18x optical zoom, 12x digital zoom and auto focus, it can instantly provide the desired wave break in perfect focus. The cameras are also specially built with humidity and glare control to supply the viewer with a crystal clear picture.

“You’re in control and it’s fun!” said Julian Warne, SURFit founder. “The cams give you the best coverage of over 100 surf breaks and you can zoom in and find the spot that’s best for you.  Whether you’re on the bus, stuck in traffic, anywhere at any time, you can use SURFit to check where the surf’s best. The SURFit iPhone app is packed with smart features like instant-on with no downloading; multiple users can share the cams; you can zoom straight to your favourite spots; or plan your whole surfing week with our exclusive 8 Day Surf Forecast. SURFit puts the whole ocean and beach lifestyle in the palm of your hand.”

The SURFit application, which has been purpose built and customised for the iPhone, is the first app in the world to stream live video optimised for both 3G and WiFi. It is also the first app to offer users dual subscription and recharge options: for lite users it’s just $2.49 for a monthly subscription that includes unlimited views and 20 control credits; or for those hardcore surfers, control credits can be recharged at the same price.
