Pop-up Globe founder and artistic director, Dr Miles Gregory, says previews are for creatives and cast to fine tune productions ready for the season to begin.

He says today’s announcement also signals that all the major construction milestones – including the craning on of the double gable roof and onion dome – have been achieved in this extraordinary construction project.

Pop-up Globe is the world’s first full-scale temporary working replica of Shakespeare’s theatre, the second Globe. More than 1,200 actors applied to be part of the season that’s popping up adjacent to the iconic Sidney Myer Music Bowl, recreating the performance conditions Shakespeare created some 400 years ago. Actors from Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, the UK and USA have been selected to form a cast of 30 utilising their amazing abilities to perform in a 360-degree space to raucous crowds who are never more than 15 metres away from the stage.

With construction having passed the half-way mark on the three-storey, 16-sided, 900-person capacity theatre, some 32,000 tickets have now been sold to Pop-up Globe’s Melbourne season of Shakespeare from 21 September to 12 November.
