Introducing the NX1 – Samsung’s professional mirrorless camera

Featuring a 28MP image sensor, 205 AF points, and up to 15FPS continuous shooting to deliver exceptional levels of performance.

(Lenses sold seprately)

Sydney, Australia – November 21, 2014Samsung Electronics Australia Pty Ltd has today launched the NX1, a new Samsung camera designed for advanced photographers. The NX1 can deliver superb image quality, ease of use, and a speedy Auto Focus (AF) system. The new Samsung NX1 camera is now available from leading photography and retail stores with a RRP of $1,899.00 (body only, lenses sold separately).

Featuring up to 15FPS continuous AF shooting, Samsung’s AF System III with 205 Phase Detection AF points and a 28MP APS-C BSI CMOS sensor for amazing image quality. The versatile performance of the Samsung NX1 will be welcomed by advanced and professional photographers.

“The NX1 camera represents latest pinnacle of Samsung’s research, development and innovation in photographic technology.” said Craig Gillespie, Head of Digital Imaging – Samsung Electronics Australia. “We’re extremely proud and excited to announce the launch of Samsung’s latest professional-level camera in Australia. It will provide passionate photographers with amazing photographic capabilities and features that we feel will change people’s understanding of our camera portfolio.”

Brilliant performance in a compact body

Powering the NX1 is the new DRIMe V Image Processor which boasts colour reproduction and technology to help minimise noise, developed by Samsung for the NX range.

Samsung’s new NX Auto Focus System III with 205 Phase Detection AF points (153 cross-type) and AF speed (0.055sec) helps allow moments to be captured quickly and in rich detail. The NX1 15FPS continuous shooting mode helps give users the ability to seamlessly track and shoot various action sequences.

Its Wide Phase Detection feature also means the NX1 can instinctively track subjects almost anywhere within the camera’s frame. The NX1 also supports the use of Phase AF during video and movie recording, so that captured content is stable and steady – an important aspect for videographers using the NX1.

The NX1 also has the intelligent new Samsung Auto Shot (SAS) feature which can automatically take a picture when subjects are in a fast-moving environment. With SAS, the camera’s processing algorithms can recognise high-speed motion and equate shutter-lag in real-time. SAS helps capture high speed action by calculating an appropriate time to capture the shot, helping provide a great capture.

Capture elusive subjects

The NX1 is equipped with Samsung’s newly designed 28MP APS-C CMOS sensor featuring a Back Side Illumination (BSI) structure with a micro lens array. BSI helps minimise image noise effectively by keeping the path between the lens and sensors clear, allowing more light to reach each pixel. This feature helps to lower the signal-to-noise ratio.

The NX1 supports native ISO 100-25600 and extended ISO to 51200, helping users to capture high exposure images with little image noise. This technology works by distinguishing specific imaging areas, such as edges, textures, or skies and applying different types of noise reduction to the individual parts. This method helps retain the image’s detail without softening edges.

Ultra HD (UHD) and 4K video capture

The NX1 supports both 4K and Ultra HD (UHD) video recording, providing flexibility and choice for capturing footage. The inbuilt HEVC Codec (H.265), the latest advanced compression technology, helps bring efficiency to the storage of video clips. 4K and UHD video files can be saved onto a removable SD Card in camera (sold separately).

Classic design and usability

The highly durable magnesium alloy body of the NX1 offers the solid and rugged feel that high end photographers are accustomed to. Carefully crafted, the ergonomic design of the NX1 is comfortable to hold, with a specially shaped grip which allows users to maintain a tight hold while shooting. Those seeking further photographic options can take advantage of the custom designed Vertical Grip VGNX01 accessory (RRP $329, sold separately), allowing for the use of a large battery and easy vertical and horizontal shooting.

The electronic viewfinder (EVF) is an XGA OLED display with 2.36 million dots, providing users with a smooth shooting experience. Bolstering the EVF, the NX1’s DRIMe V Image Processor has a lag time of just 0.005 seconds so that the EVF reflects the scene being shot quickly.

The NX1 also features a top LCD panel; the UI Synchronized Status Window shows the current camera settings, displaying key information to provide quick control of a shot. Additionally, the 3.0-inch tiltable FVGA Super AMOLED touch display is bright and vivid to help ensure photographs can be seen in various lights.

Great connectivity

Equipped with 802.11ac Wi-Fi functionality1, the NX1 allows for fast and easy connectivity to compatible mobile devices, designed for quick data transfers and high resolution photo and video sharing[1]. The NX1 is also one of the first Bluetooth 3.0-equipped CSC, helping ensure users are connected for easy pairing (via NFC[2]) and quick transfer times with compatible smartphones and tablets.

Introducing a versatile new NX lens (sold separately)

Expanding the NX premium S lens range (16-50mm F2-F2.8 S) is the new 50-150mm F2.8 S ED OIS lens, a telephoto lens designed to match the NX1 and its features. With its ultra-fast F2.8 aperture and 77-231mm focal range (35mm equivalent), this multipurpose S-series lens is suited to a wide range of scenarios including sport, wildlife and portrait photography.

The lens contains 20 elements, in 13 groups, with one XHR (eXtreme High Refractive) and four ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass elements for sharper images.

Additional features include Advanced Multi-Axis Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS) system with up to 4.5 stops (at mid range, under the CIPA standard), Samsung’s Ultra Precise Stepping Motor (UPSM).
