The Northern Territory is declaring war on a herd of thirsty camels that have invaded a small town - breaking sewage pipes and airconditioners in search of water.
McDonnell Shire Council chief executive Graham Taylor said these animals were damaging community infrastructure and had crippled the airstrip.
Local Government Minister Rob Knight has today given the council $49,000 to employ an aerial shooter to herd the animals 15km away and cull the animals.
This will be the largest cull in the Territory's history.
"There has been a dry spell and they are coming in for the water," he said.
