The Double DVD Review. Although this was a direct to DVD release in Australia, don't let this deter from your hiring or purchasing this film as it definitely gives a few other Hollywood moves a run for it's money.

The Double

Directed by Michael Brandt, The Double may be another clichéd crime thriller but thankfully it has a stellar line-up of stars that include Richard Gere, Topher Grace, Martin Sheed, Stephen Moyer, Odette Yustman and Stana Katic. The movie also feels like an 80's film due to the plot but thankfully it's firmly grounded in the 21st century and revolves around the brutal death of a United States senator.

However as the movie unfolds, we soon learn that the murderer may be linked to a Soviet assassin called Cassius and this is where former CIA agent Paul Shepherdson  (Richard Gere) and FBA agent Ben Geary (Topher Grace) come into the picture. With this myriad of young and old, together they form an uneasy alliance in order to catch the assassin before he strikes again.

Shepherdson who spent a good deal of his CIA life tracking Cassius, he believes that he has the knowledge to finally catch him, however Geary believes otherwise. The dynamics of both these characters makes for something interesting storytelling and both Gere and Topher play their roles exceptionally well.

Even though the plot can be predictable at times, there's a couple of twists that hopefully most people will miss in order to make this thriller that tad more enjoyable.

Conclusion

Although this was a direct to DVD release in Australia, don't let this deter from your hiring or purchasing this film as it definitely gives a few other Hollywood moves a run for it's money.
