Knight Rider
Season 3

Ah yes, the show that David Hasselhoff on the road to fame. Spawned by a 1982 film of the same title, Knight Rider the TV show is a good-fights-evil affair. The side of evil is filled by criminals but their proportions are huge, involving leaders of African nations and other mega-botherers. On the side of good we have Michael Knight (The Hoff), a former detective who was given a new identity (including facial features) by the Foundation for Law and Government, supposedly set up by a tycoon for benevolent advancement.

Though Knight does not have Proton Pills, the crooks should still begin to worry, because he has the almighty KITT (Knight Industries Two Thousand), a super-computerised car who can shoot lasers, see into buildings, drive itself (but only when Knight doesn’t feel like turning the wheel) and most impressive of all, play blackjack. I found one of the highlights to be KITT’s personality; from the smooth, patrician accent to the laid back delivery and encyclopaedic vocabulary… KITT is one great auto-maton! I don’t drive, so cars aren’t all that impressive to me, but I’m told the car itself, plus the many other cars we see during any given episode, are pretty swish.

If you want some shocking ’80s fashion, plus a bit of that old-time TV naiveté, where close enough was good enough, you really must acquire this title. I guarantee it will provide hours of entertainment, both at an earnest reading, or a flash-back level reading. Be sure to catch the two-part episode, where Michael Knight’s doppelganger comes in and stirs up trouble (both parts are played by Hasselhoff and we have barely more than a moustache to guide us—especially when the good guy starts imitating the bad one!)
