Godzilla vs Megaguirus

Do you love the jolly green giant lizard known as Godzilla? Well, I do and was stoked to review this title. As with all Godzilla movies you have to take a bit of a tongue in cheek approach to the whole thing with hokey special effects and overly dramatic storyline. But, those are the reasons that I love the movies!

Basically with the reappearance of Godzilla, elite Japanese scientists have developed a man made black hole to destroy him but after a test on insects goes up the creek, the insects mutate  into Meganula and the monster mash begins! The queen of the monsters is one to be reckoned with and her name is Megaguirus!

I really loved the movie, it had all the over the top elements that I like in these sort of movies. There is such a sense of impending drama that really suits the mood.

Something that the casual observer would not get is that this is not part of the proper Godzilla storyline. Since it’s inception in 1954 with the first Godzilla there have been stages in the progression of Godzilla. This is part of the alternate reality series and you can tell that they’ve taken advantage of this fact to have a bit of fun with it all.

The transfer is fairly decent with a few very little glitches and the audio is good. The disc is pretty light on in the extras department with only trailers for the movie and other Eastern Eye titles featured.

I still recommend this disc if you are a fan of this sort of movie, I certainly am. From it’s corny effects to the overblown dramatisation through to shoddy special effects, it’s what makes the big G so special. Give it a shot.
