Doctor Who the Deadly Assassin

My favourite Doctor who Tom Baker and also the wonderful voice of Little Britain comes Roadshow’s latest classic Doctor Who classic DVD entitled Doctor Who the Deadly Assassin.

Directed by David Maloney, Doctor Who the Deadly Assassin stars Tom Baker, Peter Pratt, Erik Chitty, Derek Seaton, Hugh Walters, Angus MacKay, Llewellyn Rees, Bernard Horsfall and George Pravda in a fun and at times exciting and comedic Doctor Who adventure.

Unlike other Doctor Who tales, this story is full of mystery and intrigue as Tom Baker wonderfully attempts to solve his current predicament, that is the assassination of the President of the High Council of Time Lords and unfortunately, the Doctor’s return to Gallifrey has made him the prime suspect.

Of course, there are other powers at play here and the Doctor must someone uncover this evidence before he becomes incapacitated. To spoil things, the mastermind behind this is The Master who has attempted time after time to remove the Doctor and as per always, he fails again.

With some great acting by all involved and of course its very over the top as Doctor Who should be, the most interesting aspect of Doctor Who the Deadly Assassin is that the original broadcast was cut because of a direct complain to the BBC by a powerful right winger.

Thankfully, the original ending has been fully restored to this presentation and viewers can watch one of the featurettes which explains this issue into full detail. In regards to special features, the DVD contains some great commentary by Tom Baker, Bernard Horsfall and producer Philip Hinchcliffe who give us a great insight into the creation of the Doctor Who phenomenon.

At the end of the day, another sturdy and classic Doctor Who tale for fans!
