5 Centimetres Per Second

Director Shinkai Makoto's 5 Centimeters Per Second is a very interesting anime experience that really goes beyond the stereotypes of this genre and creates a rather memorable and eye catching movie.

The main theme of 5 Centimeters Per Second is "love" and Shinkai carefully created three chapters about the two main characters at different points and times in their life. All three chapters are quite emotionally charged that takes the viewer on a journey of love and separation in some extremely realistic scenarios.

My only gripe with the storytelling is that the middle chapter becomes slightly disjointed from chapters 1 and 2, however it successfully finds itself again with chapter 3.

The standout star for me in 5 Centimeters Per Second is the amazing artwork which looks like a painting come to life from the subdued watercoloureskew artwork to the warmth of the lighting that only assists in drawing you in on this emotional rollercoaster ride.

In conclusion 5 Centimeters Per Second is anime story telling at its best that we would happily recommend to not only lovers of anime but also those lovers of mainstream romance.
