Although I have never heard of Toumani Diabaté before, The Mandé Variations was music to the soul and is truly one of the more inspirational world music CD's available.

Toumandi Diabaté's current CD is inspired by the Mandé empire which brings together a world almost totally forgotten as he plays a variety of tunes inspired by his ancestors.

Ironically, the style, although based in folklore sometimes feels like it has a modern edge to the sounds with its bass, humbling sounds that almost transforms the viewer to this ancient world of how it may or may not have sounded.

At the end of the day Toumandi Diabaté is a true genius of contemporary world music and although the CD may not be for everyone, if you are interested in world music than I highly suggest that you investigate the man called Toumandi Diabaté.
