This interesting series was created by Bryan Fuller and revolves around Ned (Lee Pace) who has the power to bring back the dead. Unfortunately this power comes at a cost and if they are touched by Ned again, their deaths will become permanent.

To compound the problematic schemas behind this power, if the resurrected person remains alive for more than 60 seconds, than another person in the area will die. Sounds strange? Definitely! Thankfully the viewer is given a great introduction to the characters, more specifically Ned whom is revisited in the series as a boy and learns the consequences of his powers.

For with great power, comes great responsibilities and when Ned’s mother dies, only to be resurrected by Ned, her resurrection causes his childhood sweetheart’s father to die and then his mother dies when she kisses him goodnight.

As an adult, Ned works with a private eye called Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) who assists in solving murders by resurrecting the victims for 60 seconds. Things become complex when one of these victims is his childhood sweetheart Charlotte which forces him to break his rules and sets up the story for an interesting romantic twist.

Reminiscent of series such as Six Feet Under, Pushing up Daisies is a clever TV series that never tries to be too serious and balances drama and at times black comedy quite well. Apart from the original story and wonderful acting by all characters involved, what makes this TV series stand out is the wonderful sets and use of colours that almost makes this look a colouring book. On Blu-ray, these colours come across like a masterpiece painting come to life. Thankfully in this day and age of Police and Medical dramas, Pushing up Daisies is a refreshing breath of fresh air that challenge the status quo.

The high definition to transfer to Blu-ray is perfect which goes hand in hand with the surreal storyline that at times looks like a cartoon through its vibrant colours and sharp images. Add in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround sound as the cherry on the cake to match the eye-candy and this is one first class presentation.

With a variety of interesting and insightful special features, one can only hope that the US networks revisit this series because once you have watched the series, investigated the extras, you will be clamouring for more. Great writing, actors that take their roles to the next level, Pushing up Daisies is a great drama with comedy and twisted romance.

Consider it the Fantasy Island of Romance!
